Introducing the Cairngorm Malt

Just £39 per bottle

In bygone days, winter in Badenoch and Strathspey was traditionally the time for making whisky.  Barley, from the foothills of the Cairngorms, was malted, fermented and distilled with crystal clear mountain water to produce the fine spirit that is synonymous with Scotland throughout the world.

So, it is appropriate that the latest chapter in the long and honourable history of Scotch Malt Whisky, The Cairngorm Malt, was unveiled at the Cairngorm Hotel in Aviemore on 21 February 2013.  This is no coincidence because this whisky is set to become the Hotel’s “own brand”.  As the leading independent Hotel in Aviemore, Scotland’s famous all-year resort, almost 90% of all Scotch Malt Whisky is distilled within one hour’s drive of the Cairngorm Hotel which has always maintained a large and varied selection of malt whiskies in its bar.

This first edition of The Cairngorm Malt is a single cask malt whisky distilled at Tomintoul Distillery, which is situated 350m high up in Glenlivet Estate.  Produced from the finest malted barley and spring water in the distillery’s giant copper kettle stills and matured for years in oak, The Cairngorm Malt displays all the hallmarks of an excellent Speyside malt whisky – light and delicate on the palate with a delicious warming glow that spreads that comfortable feeling of wellbeing throughout the body.

Each bottle of The Cairngorm Malt is individually numbered and the entire bottling of this edition has been matured in a single oak cask – cask no 4110.   As stocks are restricted, this is a malt whisky that is also expected to appeal to whisky collectors and enthusiasts around the world.

Future editions of The Cairngorm Malt are already being planned so that, over the coming years, a range of different complexities of flavours and characteristics can be brought together under a single brand name.  Like this first edition of The Cairngorm Malt, all these whiskies will be exclusively bottled for the Hotel with which they share the Highland traditions of warmth, good taste and conviviality.

The Cairngorm Malt is currently available in our bar.
